Michael Keiner - Doctor Turned Poker Pro

Michael "The Doc" Keiner has had an extraordinary career. In no way does the 49-year-old physician from a small German town fit the stereotype of a country doctor. The plastic surgeon, who always seems to be searching for new adventures, loves motorcycle races - and has taken part in a few. He has also been a successful stock broker and does not fear taking risks. He found his true passion, however, when he learned how to play poker 13 years ago.

Keiner, today a professional poker player sponsored by the online casino, 888.com, enjoys reminiscing about his beginnings in the U.S. This is where he first learned about poker during his medical studies in San Diego and quickly excelled in Limit Texas Hold'em. On his return to Germany, he started to play in casinos and soon realized that he could turn his talent into remarkable winnings.

The fact that he had been a stock broker no doubt helped him. Although he had experienced big losses during the financial crisis of the 1980s, he had learned a valuable lesson: how to make fast and calculated decisions involving large amounts of money without losing one's calm. He uses this knowledge when playing poker.

After succeededing in a number of tournaments and winning the 1997 European Seven Card Stud Championship, Keiner finally decided to give up his medical profession and concentrate entirely on poker in 2001. Ever since, he has been competing regularly in Germany and all over the world and has become one of the most important Seven Card Stud players. One of his biggest successes in recent years was his victory in the 2007 World Series of Poker Seven Card Stud Tournament when he won his first WSOP bracelet. Michael Keiner is also a commentator for 888.com's German language version.
